Established in 1948 by Lester and Velma King, King’s Skate Country has played a pivotal role in the recreational landscape of Elk Grove. Lester’s childhood fascination with skating laid the foundation for his dream to build a skating facility to bring local children joy. With Velma’s unwavering support, they purchased land on Franklin Blvd and opened the rink’s doors in December 1948. Initially operating seasonally from October through May, the rink quickly became a beloved destination for families from Elk Grove and neighboring communities.

Following Lester’s untimely passing in 1964, Velma and their son Dan took the reins, transitioning the rink to a year-round operation to meet growing demand. Their dedication and commitment to Lester’s vision ensured that King’s Skate Country continued to thrive, expanding its influence and fostering a sense of community among its patrons. In 1972, Dan furthered his parents’ legacy by opening a second location in Sacramento, extending the King family’s impact on roller skating enthusiasts across the region.

Today, King’s Skate Country remains a beacon of recreation and nostalgia in Elk Grove. Velma’s belief in keeping children engaged and happy through skating resonates in every aspect of our operations. We are more than just a rink; we are a place where friendships are forged, skills are honed, and cherished memories are created. As we look towards the future, we remain dedicated to upholding the values of inclusivity, fun, and community that Lester and Velma instilled over 70 years ago.
